Teacher and philosopher Oscar Ichazo was the founder of the Arica School and the originator of Integral Philosophy, providing a complete analysis of the human condition from the lowest levels of the human condition to the highest States of enlightened consciousness.
2. WHAT IS THE ARICA SCHOOL, THE ARICA INSTITUTE, AND THE OSCAR ICHAZO FOUNDATION?
THE ARICA SCHOOL
Schools of knowledge have been in existence since ancient times, from the Greek Schools to the schools of the Hindu, Buddhist and Sufi traditions. Through the Arica Institute, some of Oscar’s teachings and practices were presented to prepare for entering the State of Enlightenment. What makes the Arica School different from the ancient schools is that Oscar’s Integral teachings provide a contemporary method of clarification, employing biology and psychology in order to reveal the human experience with modern knowledge to establish the ground to enter and continue into the higher States of attainment.
The Oscar Ichazo Foundation develops and publishes all of Oscar’s books and group trainings and practices, and individual at–home trainings. The Arica Institute presents the group trainings he proposed which offer teachings that prepare the practitioner to enter the higher States for the benefit of humanity.
ARICA INSTITUTE
Arica Institute is a non–profit educational corporation established in 1971 to present Oscar’s self–clarification teachings and practices in group trainings through licensed training sponsors.
The Institute has an active Board of Directors whose function is to steer the organization toward a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by ensuring that the School has adequate resources to advance its mission. There are Teams that work for the Board, such as the Arica Membership Team, the Trainings and Sponsors Coordinating Team, and the Finance Committee.
THE OSCAR ICHAZO FOUNDATION
The Oscar Ichazo Foundation is a non–profit foundation with the purpose of developing and producing the publications, and the group and individual trainings, as well as group practices for the attainment of the higher States for the Arica School and the public at large. The many publications from Oscar are available on the Arica public website, Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The individual trainings and group practices are described and are available for purchase on the public website, www.arica.org. The Foundation also produces a number of lectures, meditations and exercises for free on the Oscar Ichazo Online YouTube® channel.
3. HOW IS THE ARICA SCHOOL UNIQUE?
What makes the Arica School different from the ancient schools is that Oscar’s Integral teachings provide contemporary teachings of clarification, employing biology and psychology in order to reveal the human experience with modern knowledge and language. This establishes the ground to enter and continue on into the higher States of attainment.
Oscar presented a clearly defined map of the human psyche in order that each of us can discover the basis of our ego process and transcend this process by awakening our Witness (an objective point of view) into the higher States of Mind. This ‘state of being’ is our True Essential Self, experienced as an Internal State of great happiness, Light and liberation.
4. WHAT IS INTEGRAL PHILOSOPHY?
Oscar’s Integral teachings recognize Ultimate Reality, the Source of all, and bring us from the scientific fundamentals of human existence to the higher Stages of human Self–realization, giving us a way to understand the perfection of our human creation and the universal creation, its basis, and our connection to the Universal Laws.
Oscar is the originator of Protoanalysis (proto = first; first analysis), the Enneagrammatic Theory, and Trialectics, the logic of Unity. His Integral Philosophy answers three fundamental questions:
- What is humankind?
- What is the Supreme Good of Humanity?
- What is the Truth that gives meaning and value to human life?
5. WHAT IS INTEGRAL ETHICS?
Since the 1950s, Oscar lectured about the existential crisis we are facing: rapid overpopulation, uncontrollable pollution, nuclear dangers, and misuse of basic resources. His ethical teachings disclosed the basis upon which these four areas of crisis could be approached with action and unity.
His teachings propose a new way for awakening the Ethics of Unity as an ethical force, innate in all of us, that supports the recognition that we can unite as one humanity, into a State of Unity and together solve the problems of our precious planet and our survival as a species.

ENNEAGRAM OF INTEGRAL ETHICS
Oscar considered “ethics to be not only moral judgments of good and bad but an actual energy directed toward our Higher Self,” culminating in responsible ethical behavior. Working with Integral Ethics liberates us from what are considered lower manifestations of behavior (Enneagram of the Immoral Force) by introducing a more evolved perspective in which the outcome of the State of Unity is attained and offered for the benefit of all humanity.
6. HOW CAN I LEARN MORE?

7. WHO WERE OSCAR’S FIRST STUDENTS?
From 1956 onward, groups in major cities in South America studied the insights on the Transcendental State, new philosophical theories, and the Integral and broad understanding of the human psyche proposed by him.
In 1968, he lectured about Protoanalysis and the Fixations to the public at the Institute of Applied Psychology in Santiago, Chile. At this time, a group formed and a small school was established.
8. HOW DID THE TEACHINGS REACH NORTH AMERICA?
In 1970, a group of North Americans traveled to Arica, Chile to embark on a ten–month training with Oscar to discover the parameters of the mind. After this training, he moved to New York City where he formalized the Arica Institute as a nonprofit educational corporation and the Arica School grew to international recognition. At this time, Oscar taught his Integral theory, method and meditational practices to groups in New York and other cities across the US.
9. IS OSCAR STILL TEACHING?
Even though Oscar died at his home on Maui in March 2020 at the age of 88, his teachings are still widely available worldwide on the website (arica.org) and on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. He is survived by Sarah, his wife of 40 years, who is the Executive Director of The Oscar Ichazo Foundation, and the publisher and editor of Oscar’s teachings. With many students and friends of the Arica School, she continues to offer Oscar’s teachings for the benefit of all and the realization of a united humanity, Humanity–One.
